Administrative Complex Board Meeting Room

The April meeting of the Santa Rosa County Parks and Recreation Committee was held at the Administrative Complex beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2009. The following members were present representing the sports associations and host organizations: Larry Dixon, Navarre Youth Sports Association, Navarre Sports Complex/Navarre Football-Soccer Park/Holley Ball Field; Charles Baxley, Pace Athletic and Recreation Association, Pace Athletic and Recreational Park/Santa Rosa SportsPlex; Tom Dorsey, Tiger Point Recreational Park; Robert Breland, Futbol Club of Santa Rosa, Inc.; Robert Foster, Chumuckla Community Center and Park; and Charles Hoard, East Milton Recreational Park.

Absent were representatives from Fidelis Community Center and Park, Benny Russell Park, and Swenson Park.

Also present were the Administrative Services/Parks Operations Manager, Tammy Simmons, Rick Greene and Louie Sahin, Futbol Club of Santa Rosa, Inc.

The meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m.

The Administrative Services Manager welcomed all.

Committee members introduced themselves and the park they represented.

Minutes from the September 24, 2008 meeting were approved without objection as written.

The purpose of the meeting was to hear appeals from volunteers concerning background screening.

• Richard Scot Thomas, PARA, stated his case, Baxley moved approval to accept Mr. Thomas as a volunteer, Hoard seconded the motion, motion approved without objection for Thomas to volunteer.

• David Mallory Phillips, EMYA, Phillips stated his case, Hoard moved approval to accept Mr. Phillips as a volunteer, Foster seconded the motion, motion approved without objection for Phillips to volunteer.

• Robert Keith Wright, PARA, Wright stated his case, Baxley moved approval to accept Mr. Wright as a volunteer, Dixon seconded the motion, motion approved without objection for Wright to volunteer.

Dixon questioned where the county is in the budget process for next year?

Simmons stated it is at the department level, the next step will be to take the department recommendations to the County Administrator. Simmons stated that the park organizations will be notified of any cuts to the Parks Department budget.

Simmons stated the next regular scheduled meeting is May 27, 2009.
