The Supervisor of Elections

Ann W. Bodenstein was elected to the Office of Supervisor of Elections in the August 2004 Primary Election.  She was appointed to fill the remainder of the previous Supervisor Doug Wilkes term by Governor Jeb Bush, October 3, 2004.  She assumed her elected position as Supervisor, January 2005.

Ms. Bodenstein was a member of the Elections Office Staff since 1992 as Poll Worker and Polling Place Coordinator.  She started working elections in the 60’s as Inspector, and later as Clerk in her local precinct. 

The Supervisor has served as State Treasurer for the Association of Florida Healthcare Auxiliaries and Volunteers for two years; served as the Northwest Florida District Director for two years in the same organization; is a member of the Santa Rosa County Chamber of Commerce-Milton, Navarre, Gulf Breeze, Pace and Jay.

In 1996 she was the Santa Rosa County Employee of the Year and in 1998 received Special Recognition from the Santa Rosa County Civil Service Board for Outstanding Service to the County.

Duties of the Supervisor of Elections include:

  • Conduct all public election in Santa Rosa County
  • Register voters and issue voter registration cards
  • Serve as a member of the canvassing board
  • Certify election returns to the State Elections Canvassing Commission
  • Maintain voter registration rolls by removing voters who are deceased, no longer live in, or for other reasons no longer are eligible to vote in Santa Rosa County
  • Accept absentee ballot requests and send, receive and verify absentee ballots
  • Qualify candidates for county offices
  • Receive candidate and committee campaign treasurer’s reports and provide copies to the public upon request
  • Send advance notice of elections to voters who are overseas or in the military
  • Filing officer for financial disclosure reports from elected and appointed officials
  • Make financial disclosure reports available and provides copes upon request
  • Layout and print ballots
  • Maintain election equipment
  • Hire and train poll workers
  • Secure polling places
  • Maintain statistics on election results, voting history and voter registrations
  • Verify signatures for initiative petition and candidate qualifying by petitions
  • Redistricting and maintaining precinct information
