Board of County Commissioners

Most Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) List

1. How can I determine who is my commissioner and/or how do I reach my commissioner?

You may call the Board of County Commissioners Office at 850-934-3198 or 850-983-1877.  You can also search a map on the county web site at http://www.santarosa.fl.gov/bocc/members/commissionmap.html .  On the commission map link, just enter your street name and a map will appear showing the commission district for your area.  If you would like to reach other officials, you can also call this number and will be transferred.

2. What is the difference between my voting district commissioner and my working district commissioner?

There are five voting and working districts in the county.  Each voting district contains roughly the same number of citizens and most issues are addressed through these districts (if an issue comes up in a certain area, that area’s voting district commissioner will usually work with citizens to resolve the problem).  The five working districts, however, each contain an equal number of road miles.  Road dollars are allocated to each commissioner by these road districts so that transportation is funded uniformly throughout the county.  Therefore, the voting district applies to everything EXCEPT transportation issues and as a citizen you may be in one commissioner’s voting district, but in another commissioner’s working (or road) district.

How can you tell which voting and working district you are in?  You can call the Board of County Commissioners office at 850-983-1877 or you can also search a map on the county web site at http://www.santarosa.fl.gov/bocc/members/commissionmap.html

13.  What criteria have been established for presenting to the Board of County Commissioners?

All presenters and speakers are required to fill out a form the day of their presentation that lists the date, your name, address, telephone number, and the topic that you are addressing. In addition, when you stand up to speak, please state your name and address clearly for the public record.

In the Board Room, the County can facilitate your oral, video, and electronic presentations. We do ask, however, that you contact the Administrative Services Department, at 850-983-1858, or the Computer Department, at 850-983-1840, at least one to two days prior to your video or electronic presentation so that we have time to schedule an appointment to test your media’s compatibility with our system. This is especially imperative for those planning to run a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation from a personal laptop computer. Due to compatibility issues with many laptops, the County strongly suggests that you make your presentation available on a floppy or zip disk or a CD to ensure that it will work properly during your presentation.

Further information regarding guidelines for presenting to the Board can be obtained at http://www.santarosa.fl.gov/bocc/meetings/presentationtips.html
