Requirements


Understanding that all businesses do not offer the flexibility to allow time away from work to allow employees to mentor on a weekly basis, the following guidelines have been established to allow all area business to participate if they so choose.

Distinguished Corporate Honor Roll

  • The company must have a written policy supporting administrative leave for mentoring.
  • The company must have a CEO/ President/Owner who actively serves as a mentor.

Corporate Honor Roll

  • The company must have a written policy supporting administrative leave for mentoring.

Apprentice Honor Roll

  • The business must provide an apprenticeship program for high school youth for a minimum of four hours a month.
  • This apprenticeship may be carried out in a number of ways:
    1. Business may allow a minimum of one high school youth to job shadow with employees four hours a month, when safety and work load allows;
    2. Business may provide a workshop or hands on project directly related to future employment in that particular field;
    3. Business my join with other area businesses to organize an annual job fair targeting youth and encouraging them to explore careers in Santa Rosa County.

Friends of Mentors

  • This category gives businesses that don’t allow any other level of interaction with youth an opportunity to support Santa Rosa County youth.
  • Membership at this level is based on an annual financial or in kind contribution.
  • Contributions may be used to fund events such as a county wide Volunteer Fair, sponsor a fair booth, be offered as mini-grants to local businesses that want to host a workshop, etc.

It is suggested that administrative leave policy for mentoring allow for a minimum of one hour a week, that can be bundled within a single month, at the discretion of the supervisor taking work load into consideration. Samples of current Administrative Leave policies are available upon request.
