The Marine Advisory Committee met on the above date with the following members present: Jeff Marker, Rick Harris, Pasco Gibson, Wayne Hawthorne and Scott Mason. Also present were the County Administrator, Hunter Walker; Public Works Director, Avis Whitfield; Marine Extension Agent, Chris Verlinde; and County Engineer, Roger Blaylock. Jeff Marker called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.
The minutes of the February 7, 2012 meeting were approved.
LIVE OAK BOAT RAMP UPDATE
Hunter Walker advised the Committee that one of the owners of property on Live Oak Street has lowered the price of his lot from $135,000 to $95,000. The location of the property is adjacent to the boat ramp on the water. It will only accommodate 14 vehicle/trailer spaces (see attached). He noted that money is available in the Boater Registration Fee fund and FBIP funds can be used for improvements of the property but the County will have to own the property first. After committee discussion it was decided that Mr. Walker would ask the County Grants Coordinator to see if grant funding is available to purchase the property and Mr. Marker will try to evaluate a fair market value for the property to compare with the owners price.
PROJECTS / ISSUES UPDATE
Roger Blaylock reported that the Army Corp of Engineer’s permit has been received for the Marine Sanctuary project and the Board of County Commissioners have improved the funding for the gulf side deployment and contracts and bonds are being exchanged with the contractor. Walter Marine is the contractor.
Mr. Walker noted that we do not have any additional information on the log jam on Escambia River from Escambia County.
Avis Whitfield noted that the longer pier at the Archie Glover Boat ramp will be finished in about two weeks and construction on the shorter one will begin shortly thereafter.
No other business.
