January 10, 2006

The meeting was called to order at 3:00 with the following members and staff present:
· Mr. Greg Fountain, Chairman
· Mr. Gaius Bruce, Vice-Chairman
· Mr. Kenneth Walters, Committee Member
· Ms. Julie Seanor, Committee Member
· Ms. Joanne Connor, Committee Member
· Ms. Sarah Hernandez, Committee Advisor
· Ms. Beckie Faulkenberry, P&Z Director and Staff to the Committee
· Ms. Laurie Schulze, Recorder and Staff to the Committee

The following members were absent:
· Ms. Shirley Brown, Committee Member
· Ms. Sharon A. Bryant, Committee Member

Mr. Fountain paraphrased the minutes from the December 8, 2005 meeting. Ms. Julie Seanor moved to accept the minutes. Mr. Gaius Bruce seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

The board then moved on to consider individual cases on the agenda.

The first case was Fairway Inn, 2005-NAARB-008. This project was continued from the December 8, 2005 meeting. Ms. Sarah Hernandez represented this project. Additional color samples were shown to the board members. Ms. Joanne Connor moved to approve the project as presented with the changes; Mr. Kenneth Walters seconded the motion; the project was approved as presented at the meeting, with the changes.

The second case was Southern Signs, 2005-NAARB-009. Mr. Rod Thomas presented this project. Clarification regarding the internal lighting was discussed. The board addressed the landscaping and the missing address on the sign. Mr. Gaius Bruce moved to approve the project as presented with the changes; Mr. Ken Walters seconded the motion; the project was approved as presented at the meeting, with the changes.

Mr. Hoffman with The Paradise Development Group addressed the board regarding the signage on Walgeens. Walgreens is the only store in the shopping center that has no lights on at night due to the new regulations. Ms. Faulkenberry said she would go back and look at the site plan to see if the signage was included in the approved site plan. If not, Mr. Hoffman will have to go to the Board of Adjustments for a variance.

Mr. Ken Garner of The Navarre Press asked the board about the Hispanic Food Store on Highway 87 and 98. Ms. Faulkenberry said she would drive by and take a look at it. Mr. Garner also questioned the best way to file a complaint. Ms. Faulkenberry said she is the point of contact.

Mr. Gaius Bruce moved to adjourn the meeting. Mr. Ken Walters seconded. The meeting adjourned at 3:35 p.m.
