Proposed Subdivision Design Standards
Santa Rosa County, through a collaborative effort between the Engineering Department and the Division of Community Planning, Zoning, and Development, is proposing an amendment to the subdivision design standards found in Article Four of the Land Development Code. The proposed amendment would establish design criteria for new subdivisions in an effort to help curb speeding and high traffic volume problems on residential streets.
The amendment establishes a road hierarchy based on traffic volumes and requires traffic calming to be designed into new subdivisions. Using the proposed road hierarchy, the appropriate road types for a new subdivision would be determined by a traffic study projecting internal traffic volumes on the proposed roads. Further, traffic calming elements will be required in the design of proposed subdivision streets in certain circumstances. A Subdivision Street Design Manual will be created in order to provide an easy reference for design professionals.
