June Events at Your Santa Rosa County Library



June is Audiobook Appreciation Month – All SRC Libraries
Celebrate Audiobook Appreciation Month by checking out a variety of audiobooks from any Santa Rosa County Library. The libraries offer books on CD, Playaways and eAudiobooks that you can download from rbDigital. There are hundreds of titles from which to choose.
 
Preschool Storytime
Storytime programs are presented for preschool children ages three through five and include stories, finger plays and action rhymes. Caregivers must remain in the library during storytime; however, they cannot accompany children into the programs. Programs start promptly at the assigned times; latecomers are not admitted.

First timer? Visit the library to meet the storytime presenter, pick up a welcome packet, explore the children's area and enjoy a tour of the library.
 
Storytime will be presented during the following times June 3 through July 19:
• 11 – 11:30 a.m. on Mondays at the Jay Library
• 11 – 11:30 a.m. on Tuesdays at the Navarre Library and the Milton Library
• 11 – 11:30 a.m. on Fridays at the Gulf Breeze Library and the Pace Library

Summer Reading Programs through July 19
A Universe of Stories
Explore space with “A Universe of Stories” this summer. Read for 15 minutes per day between June 1 and July 19 for great prizes. Register online or at the library. Pick up a reading calendar at the library or print one online from the program registration page. Bring completed reading calendars to the library's last program or through July 31 to claim prizes!
 
Programs for students who were in kindergarten through the 5th grades during the last school year will begin on June 3 and be held:
• 1 p.m. on Mondays at the Navarre Library
• 1 p.m. on Tuesdays at the Jay Library
• 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays at the Pace Library
• 1 p.m. on Wednesdays at the Milton Library
• 5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays at the Gulf Breeze Library
 
All activities are free and open to the public. Registration for programs is not required.
Presenters in the weekly library programs are sponsored by the Friends of the Gulf Breeze Library, the Friends of the Milton Library, the Friends of the Navarre Library and the Friends of the Pace Library. Please check the library website for additional details at www.santarosa.fl.gov/libraries.
 
STEAM Makerspace – Gulf Breeze Library - 1060 Shoreline Dr.
Jun. 1 and 8, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Jun. 3, 10, 17, and 24, 2 – 5p.m.
Come join the maker's space at the Gulf Breeze Libary. Persons interested in drafting, robotics, Arduino, knitting, painting or any kind of hobby have access to the library meeting room. Registration is required.
 
Reading with Gabby– Pace Library – 4750 Pace Patriot Blvd.
Jun. 1, 10 a.m.
Visit the library to read with Gabby the therapy dog! Space is limited; registration is required.
 
Decorate a Rocket Ship
Jun. 3, 3 p.m. – Pace Library – 4750 Pace Patriot Blvd.
Jun. 8, 10 a.m. – Navarre Library – 8484 James M. Harvell Rd.
Kids in kindergarten through fifth grade are invited to color and design a giant rocket ship that will be on display in the library as part of the summer reading program. Sign up is required.
 
The Illustriates Graphic Novel Book Club – Navarre Library - 8484 James M. Harvell Rd.
Jun. 5, 4 p.m.
Sixth through 12th graders can join fellow graphic novel enthusiasts to discuss the book of the month. Members can suggest reading ideas, interests, and discuss the world of the graphic novel. This month’s selection is “Anne Frank’s Diary: The Graphic Adaptation” adapted by Ari Folman. Registration is required.
 
STEAM at the Beach – Milton Library – 5541 Alabama St.
Jun. 7, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
The Milton Library will host a beach-themed STEAM event:
  • 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., build a beach using kinetic sand, ocean-themed LEGO kits, Arckits, and more, or make a beach-themed sensory bag.
  • 1 - 4 p.m., enjoy the Aquaman movie (rated PG-13). Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Milton Library.
For the Win! Games Day– Milton Library – 5541 Alabama St.
Jun. 8, 9 a.m.
Enjoy playing games? Come to the Milton Library for game day. Bring games from home or play those provided by the library. There will also be an on-going Dungeons & Dragons campaign. This event is open to all ages and game groups are welcome.
 
Friends of the Navarre Library Board Meeting - 8484 James M. Harvell Rd.
Jun. 10, 10 a.m. 
Board meetings are held on the second Monday of each month at 10 a.m. at the Navarre Library. Visit the Friends’ website at www.facebook.com/NFONL for more information.

Learn the basics of how to crochet! Visit the Jay Library to sign up and get a supply list. Supplies should cost less than $5.

Jun. 11, 5 p.m.
Sixth through 10th graders are invited to share ideas about the book of the month. The Inklings Book Club meets the second Tuesday of the month at 5 p.m. at the Milton Library. This month’s selection is “Daughter of the Pirate King” by Tricia Levenseller. Registration is required.

The fiction book club meets at 1 p.m. on the second Friday of every other month for a brown bag lunch and book discussion. This month's selection is “Hazards of Time Travel” by Joyce Carol Oates. Registration is required.
 
Internet Safety – All Libraries
Jackalyn Kovac, crime prevention coordinator for the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office, will present a program on internet safety for third through fifth graders and their parents. Programs will be held on the following dates and times:
  • Jun. 15: 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at Gulf Breeze and 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at Navarre
  • Jun. 22: 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at Milton and 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at Pace
  • Jun. 29: 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at Jay

AniManga Club – Gulf Breeze Library - 1060 Shoreline Dr.

Visit the Gulf Breeze Library on the third Tuesday of each month to learn and share graphic art skills in a fun environment. The AniManga Club is dedicated to the enjoyment and promotion of animation, cartooning, and related arts. The club is open to youth ages 11 – 17.
 
Tech and Art Club – Navarre Library – 8484 James M. Harvell Rd.
Jun. 19, 4 p.m.

Tweens and teens ages 10-17 who are interested in robotics, coding, and art are invited to a new tech and art club. Explore art using technology and various mediums. Beginners through expert level welcome! Registration is required.
 
Third Thursdays with Your County Master Gardener – Navarre Library – 8484 James M. Harvell Rd.

The county master gardeners will present a monthly series on a variety of interesting topics with solutions for gardening life. This month’s topic, butterfly gardening, will be presented by Louise Biernesser.

The University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Services presents "Basic Gardening for Northwest Florida" by Jennifer Weber, Florida master gardener, at the Gulf Breeze Library.

Jun. 25, 4 p.m.
Tweens and teens ages 10-17 who are interested in robotics, coding, Arduino, virtual reality, and all things tech-related are invited to a robotics and tech club. Meetings are held the fourth Tuesday of each month. Beginners through expert level welcome!

Jun. 25, 5 p.m.
Join fellow graphic novel enthusiasts at the Milton Library on the fourth Tuesday each month to discuss the book of the month. Members can suggest reading ideas, interests and discuss the world of the graphic novel. This month’s selection is “Spider-Man: Miles Morales vol. 1” by Brian Michael Bendis. The club will watch “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse” (rated PG) during this month’s meeting. Registration is required.

Jun. 25, 5 p.m.
Visit the Navarre Library for a book club. Meetings are on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 5 p.m. Those interested may suggest books to the library – fiction and non-fiction titles are welcome!
 
Bibliobabblers Teen Book Club - Gulf Breeze Library - 1060 Shoreline Dr.
Jun. 25, 6 p.m.

Ninth through 12th graders who are 14-18 years old can discuss the read-of-the-month with friends at the Gulf Breeze Library. Bibliobabblers meets at 6 p.m. on the last Tuesday of every month. This month's selection is “Ship Breaker” by Paolo Bacigalupi.
