Santa Rosa County Commission Chairman Sam Parker, District 1, was recently appointed to the Florida Association of Counties (FAC) board of directors. Commissioner Parker will serve in this role for two years.
"I am honored to have the opportunity to serve on the FAC board of directors," said Parker. "This will allow me to work with policy makers in Tallahassee on important issues that will affect Santa Rosa County and all of our neighbors in the panhandle."
The FAC Board of Directors is composed of one commissioner from each Florida senate district, elected to office by commissioners of the counties within the respective senate district. The FAC president also appoints six at-large directors to serve a one-year term. Together, the board is responsible for guiding FAC in its mission to preserve and strengthen home rule through advocacy, education and collaboration.
“Alongside the executive committee, the board of directors serve as leadership for the Association.” said FAC Executive Director, Ginger Delegal. “Those elected to serve on the board will play a crucial role in the strategic vision for the future of FAC, the determination of FAC’s legislative platform as well as provide operational guidance for the organization.”
For more than 85 years, the Florida Association of Counties (FAC) has represented the diverse interests of Florida’s counties, emphasizing the importance of protecting home rule – the concept that government closest to the people governs best.
