Santa Rosa County approved a county-wide expansion of the waste hauling agreement with Waste Pro of Florida, Inc. at the board of county commission regular meeting June 25, after ECUA opted not to renew their contract to service the north end of the county which expires Dec. 31. At the July 9 meeting, the board approved additional changes to the franchise agreement for Waste Pro to begin sanitation services to residents in the north end of the county beginning Jan. 1, 2021.Waste Pro has served as the waste collector for the unincorporated Gulf Breeze area since 2011 and later in Navarre after the previous hauler opted not to renew in 2017. Waste Pro, which is headquarter in Longwood, Florida, maintains approximately 300 municipal contracts and franchises throughout the southeastern US.The new contract will provide Santa Rosa County customers with weekly trash and yard waste pickup, on-demand bulk waste collection, and subscription-based recycling. On days that trash is collected, yard waste cans may be used as second trash can if needed. The new agreement will offer recycling as a subscription service, this service will be an additional $27 per quarter for weekly recycling pickup if the customer elects to subscribe. Waste hauling rates are adjusted annually each January. Rates per quarter under the new agreement will be $73.29 beginning Jan. 1, 2021.Current ECUA customers will see no changes through the end of this year. ECUA will continue to process recyclables for Santa Rosa County residents. Forthcoming changes will be communicated with residents as the end of the contract draws near.
