Star Wars Reads Day at all libraries Oct. 15, 11 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

October Events at Your Santa Rosa County Library


Please note new information/programs are highlighted below.

Preschool Storytime
Storytime programs are presented for preschool children ages three through five and include stories, finger plays and action rhymes. Caregivers must remain in the library during storytime; however, they cannot accompany children into the programs. Programs start promptly at the assigned times; latecomers are not admitted.

First timer? Visit the library to meet the storytime presenter, pick up a welcome packet, explore the children's area, and enjoy a tour of the library.
 
Storytime will be presented during the following times through Dec. 7:
  • 11 – 11:30 a.m. on Mondays at the Jay Library
  • 11 – 11:30 a.m. on Tuesdays at the Navarre & Milton Libraries
  • 11 – 11:30 a.m. on Fridays at the Gulf Breeze & Pace Libraries

Toddler Time
Toddler Time is a program for children ages 18 to 36 months who attend with a caregiver.  One child and one adult register together for songs, stories, rhymes, and other fun activities. This 20-minute program lasts 6 weeks. 
 
Toddler Time requires registration; space is limited. It is not a drop-in program. Details are available at the participating libraries. You may call Youth Services Coordinator Angela Evans at 981-4066 if you have any questions.
 
Toddler Time will be presented during the following times through Oct. 26:
• 11 – 11:20 a.m. on Wednesdays at the Milton, Navarre, & Pace Libraries
• 10 – 10:20 a.m. on Fridays at the Gulf Breeze Library
 
Refreshing Reads Book Club – Jay Library - 5259 Booker Ln.
Oct. 2, 3 p.m.
Enjoy an uplifting book club where one can talk about books in a spirit of fun and sharing. Refreshing Reads meets the first Tuesday of every month at the Jay Library. See a staff person to sign up. This month's selection is “If I Run” by Terri Blackstock.
 
Reading with Summit – Milton Library – 5541 Alabama St.
Oct. 2 & 16, 4 p.m.
Visit the library to read with Summit - the K-9 Literacy Dog! Space is limited; registration is required. Speak with a staff member to sign up.
 
The Illustriates Graphic Novel Book Club – Navarre Library - 8484 James M. Harvell Rd.
Oct. 3, 4 p.m.
Sixth through 12th graders can join fellow graphic novel enthusiasts at the Navarre Library on the first Wednesday of each month to discuss the book of the month. Members can suggest reading ideas, interests, and discuss the world of the graphic novel. This month's selection is “Poe: Stories and Poems,” a graphic novel adaptation by Gareth Hinds. Speak with a staff member to sign up.
 
Book Chat – Pace Library – 4750 Pace Patriot Blvd.
Oct. 3, 4 p.m.  
One of the next best things to reading a good book is chatting about it. Join the conversation at the Pace Library on the first Wednesday of every month at 4 p.m. This month's selection is “A Death in Live Oak” by James Grippando. Registration is required.

Oct. 6, 10 a.m.
Visit the library to read with Gabby the therapy dog! Space is limited; registration is required. Speak with a staff member to sign up.

Friends of the Navarre Library Board Meeting - 8484 James M. Harvell Rd.
Oct. 8, 10 a.m.

The Inklings– Milton Library - 5541 Alabama St.
Oct. 9, 5 p.m.
Sixth through 10th graders are invited to share their ideas about the book of the month. The Inklings Book Club meets the second Tuesday of the month at 5 p.m. at the Milton Library. This month’s selection is “York: The Shadow Cipher” by Laura Ruby. Speak with a staff member to register.

Friends of the Gulf Breeze Library Board of Director’s Meeting – 1060 Shoreline Dr.
Oct. 9, 5:30 p.m.

Coding Robotics for Kids: The Moving Robots! – Pace Library – 4750 Pace Patriot Blvd.
Oct. 10, 4 p.m.
Kids ages 6 - 11 are invited to play with and learn very basic coding to make a robot move, spin and dance. Space is limited; see a staff member to register.
 
Artists & Authors Event – Navarre Library – 8484 James M. Harvell Rd.
Oct. 12, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. & Oct. 13, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Local authors and artisans will be staged throughout the library, sharing their talents, signing books and discussing their works. Some of the participants will have items available for purchase. We are honored to feature these local talents.

Page Turners - Gulf Breeze Library - 1060 Shoreline Dr.
Oct. 12, 1 p.m.
The fiction book club meets at 1 p.m. on the second Friday of every other month for a brown bag lunch and book discussion. This month's selection is “Pachinko” by Min Jin Lee. There is a limit of 20 participants, so call or visit the library to sign up.
 
Star Wars Reads Day – All Libraries
Oct. 15, 11 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
The force is strong at the Library where you can celebrate Star Wars Reads Day. While you are taking a break from school, enjoy the Star Wars themed displays and activities. “Solo: A Star Wars Movie” (rated PG-13) will be shown at 11 a.m. at the Gulf Breeze Library and at 2 p.m. at the Jay, Milton, Navarre, and Pace Libraries. Contact your local library for more details. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Library groups.

Oct. 16, 3 p.m.
Enjoy playing games? Bring games from home or play those provided by the library. All ages and game groups are welcome.
 
AniManga Club – Gulf Breeze Library - 1060 Shoreline Dr.
Oct. 16, 4 p.m.
Visit the Gulf Breeze Library on the third Tuesday of each month to learn and share graphic art skills in a fun environment. The AniManga Club is dedicated to the enjoyment and promotion of animation, cartooning, and related arts. The club is open to youth ages 11 – 17.
 
Navarre Authors Club - Navarre Library - 8484 James M. Harvell Rd.
Oct. 17, 4 p.m.

Join other local authors at the Navarre Library on the third Wednesday of every month at 4 p.m. Topics of discussion will include everything from the writing process to how a new author can get published.
 
Third Thursdays with Your County Master Gardener – Navarre Library – 8484 James M. Harvell Rd.
Oct. 18, 11 a.m.

The County Master Gardeners will present a monthly series on a variety of interesting topics with solutions for your gardening life. This month’s topic, “Fall Vegetable Gardening,” will be presented by Norene Gideon.

Third Fridays with UF/IFAS Extension – Gulf Breeze Library - 1060 Shoreline Dr.
Oct. 19, 1 p.m.

The University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Services presents “Wildflowers – On Our Roadside & for Your Yard” by Suzanne Spencer, Florida master gardener, at the Gulf Breeze Library.

Graphic Novel Book Club – Milton Library - 5541 Alabama St.
Oct. 23, 5 p.m.

Join fellow graphic novel enthusiasts at the Milton Library on the fourth Tuesday each month to discuss the book of the month. Members can suggest reading ideas, interests, and discuss the world of the graphic novel. This month's selection is “The Graveyard Book” by Neil Gaiman. We will be watching “Coraline” based off Neil Gaiman’s graphic novel as part of the Fright Night Movies series during this month’s meeting. Visit the library to register.

Oct. 23, 24, 30, & 31, 5 p.m.

Join us for Fright Night Movies during the last two weeks of October. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Milton Library. The following movies will be shown:

Join the Fiction Fanatics for stimulating conversations about popular works of fiction, at 4 p.m. on the fourth Friday of every month (except May and November). This month's selection is “Gwendy’s Button Box” by Stephen King. Speak to a staff member to reserve a copy.

Robotics and Tech for Tweens & Teens – Gulf Breeze Library – 1060 Shoreline Dr.
Oct. 30, 4 p.m.
Tweens and teens ages 10-17 who are interested in robotics, coding, Arduino, virtual reality, and all things tech-related are invited to join us for a robotics and tech club. Meetings are held the last Tuesday of each month. Beginners through expert level welcome!

Bibliobabblers Teen Book Club - Gulf Breeze Library - 1060 Shoreline Dr.
Oct. 30, 6 p.m.

Ninth through 12th graders who are 14-18 years old can discuss the read-of-the-month with friends at the Gulf Breeze Library. Bibliobabblers meets at 6 p.m. on the last Tuesday of every month. This month’s book is “Nemesis” by Brendan Reichs.

Creepy Critters Animal Show – Gulf Breeze Library – 1060 Shoreline Dr.
Oct. 31, 1 p.m.
Join us for the Creepy Critters Animal Show to learn how some less-than-cuddly and icky creatures serve an important purpose to the environment. Get “hands-on” with several animals. See a staff member for more information.
 
Fall Into Fun – Jay, Milton, Navarre, & Pace Libraries
Oct. 31, 1 p.m.
Fall Into Fun at your local library! Enjoy snacks, activities, and more. Costumes are encouraged. See a staff member for more information.
