Low cost spay/neuter program begins Oct. 1

Santa Rosa County Animal Services has received a grant in the amount of $20,000 from the Florida Animal Friend spay/neuter license plate program for a low cost spay/neuter program for the pets of the citizens of Santa Rosa County. The guidelines are as follows:
  • The program runs October 1 to September 30, 2019 or until funds are depleted.
  • The pet must be a large breed dog over 50 lbs. and over six months of age.
  • Two dogs per household allowed.
  • Owner must provide current rabies certificate on the dog(s) to register.
  • A co-pay of $25 per dog is due at the appointment, which includes pain medicine.
  • Owner must come to the shelter to set up appointment between 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday and receive a voucher (leave pets at home). Must have a photo ID and be a Santa Rosa County resident.
  • It is at the shelter’s discretion as to which of the participating vets will be appointed.
  • Any additional services or complications are the owner’s responsibility.
  • Take the FAF voucher and rabies certificate to the vet appointment.

Free microchipping for dogs adopted in October

In celebration and support of National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, Santa Rosa County Animal Services will implant a free HomeAgain microchip for any dog adopted during the month of October. A lifetime registration fee for the microchip thru HomeAgain will require an additional fee of $19.99 to the pet owner.

"We are delighted to endorse this permanent form of identification as so many lost pets come into the shelter with no owner contact information to get them back home," said Dale Hamilton, animal services director.
