Santa Rosa County unveils
NAS Whiting Field entrance monument
Santa Rosa County will unveil an entrance monument for Naval Air Station Whiting Field on Wed., Aug. 21 at 9 a.m. at the northeast corner of Highway 87 and Langley St. in Milton. The stucco monument is approximately 19 ft. wide by eight feet tall and was funded through the county's defense reserve fund.
"NAS Whiting Field is where the future of naval aviation begins," said District 3 Commissioner Don Salter. "Their mission is to produce the military’s best-trained aviation warfighter. This monument represents Santa Rosa County's continued support for our military throughout our country."
NAS Whiting Field occupies approximately 12,000 acres, including 12 outlying fields with three separate and fully operational airfields. As the host of 21 tenant activities, including the Training Air Wing FIVE which produces over 1,200 pilots a year, the air station provides training for U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps and Coast Guard student pilots, as well as those of several allied nations. The estimated economic impact of NAS Whiting Field is $1.4 billion annually.
