December Events at Your Santa Rosa County Library


New information/programs are highlighted below.

Holiday Closures
Libraries will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 24 and 25, in observance of Christmas.

Preschool Storytime
Storytime programs are presented for preschool children ages three through five and include stories, finger plays and action rhymes. Caregivers must remain in the library during storytime; however, they cannot accompany children into the programs. Programs start promptly at the assigned times; latecomers are not admitted.

First timer? Visit the library to meet the storytime presenter, pick up a welcome packet, explore the children's area, and enjoy a tour of the library.
 
Storytime will be presented during the following times through Dec. 6:
• 11 – 11:30 a.m. on Mondays at the Jay Library
• 11 – 11:30 a.m. on Tuesdays at the Navarre and Milton Libraries
• 11 – 11:30 a.m. on Fridays at the Gulf Breeze and Pace Libraries

Family Story Hour
Learn about the Earth’s biomes at Family Story Hour with stories, activities, and more related to each biome. This month we will explore forests.
Family Story Hour will be presented during the following times this month:
  • 4 p.m. on Mon., Dec. 2– Navarre Library
  • 4 p.m. on Tues., Dec. 3 – Milton Library
  • 5:30 p.m. on Tues., Dec. 10 – Jay Library
  • 4 p.m. on Tues., Dec. 17 – Pace Library
  • 5:30 p.m. on Wed., Dec. 18 – Gulf Breeze Library

Santa will take a break from his preparations at the North Pole to visit Santa Rosa County libraries. Enjoy a Christmas story, festive snacks, and a gift from Santa. Please bring a camera to have a picture taken with Santa. All ages are welcome. Special thanks to area Friends of the Library for sponsoring this spectacular visit.
 
STEAM Makerspace – Gulf Breeze Library - 1060 Shoreline Dr.
Dec. 2, 9, 16, 23, & 30, 2 p.m. – 5p.m.
Dec. 7 & 14, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Interested in drafting, robotics, Arduino, knitting, painting or any kind of hobby and would like a place to meet with others? The library meeting room will be available at this time. Registration is required.

Refreshing Reads Book Club – Jay Library - 5259 Booker Ln.
Dec. 3, 3 p.m.
Enjoy an uplifting book club where one can talk about books in a spirit of fun and sharing. This month's selection is “The Divide” by Jolina Petersheim. Registration is required.

The Illustriates Graphic Novel Book Club – Navarre Library - 8484 James M. Harvell Rd.
Dec. 4, 4 p.m.
Sixth through 12th graders can join fellow graphic novel enthusiasts to discuss the book of the month. Members can suggest reading ideas, interests, and discuss the world of the graphic novel. This month’s selection is “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” adapted by Alessandro Ferrari. Registration is required.
 
Book Chat – Pace Library – 4750 Pace Patriot Blvd.
Dec. 4, 4 p.m.  
One of the next best things to reading a good book is chatting about it. Join the conversation at the Pace Library on the first Wednesday of every month at 4 p.m. This month’s selection is “A Lady’s Guide to Selling Out” by Sally Franson. Registration is required.

Friends of the Navarre Library Board Meeting - 8484 James M. Harvell Rd.
Dec. 9, 10 a.m.

Learn the basics of how to crochet. Visit the Jay Library to register and get a supply list.
 
The Inklings– Milton Library - 5541 Alabama St.
Dec. 10, 5 p.m.
Sixth through 10th graders are invited to share ideas about the book of the month. The Inklings Book Club meets the second Tuesday of the month at 5 p.m. at the Milton Library. This month read any Sherlock Holmes story and discuss Arthur Conan Doyle. Registration is required.

Friends of the Gulf Breeze Library Board of Director’s Meeting – 1060 Shoreline Dr.

Dec. 13, 1 p.m.
The fiction book club meets at 1 p.m. on the second Friday of every other month for a brown bag lunch and book discussion. This month's selection is “The Silent Patient” by Alex Michaelides. Registration is required.

For the Win! Games Day– Milton Library – 5541 Alabama St.
Dec. 14, 9 a.m.
Enjoy playing games? Come to the Milton Library for game day. Bring games from home or play those provided by the library. There will also be an on-going Dungeons & Dragons campaign. This event is open to all ages and game groups are welcome.
 
Family Movie Mondays – Navarre Library - 8484 James M. Harvell Rd.
Dec. 16, 3:30 p.m.
Family movies will be shown the third Monday of every month at 3:30 p.m. This month’s movie is “Home Alone” (rated PG). Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Navarre Library.

Dec. 17, 3 p.m.
Enjoy playing games? Bring games from home or play those provided by the library. All ages and game groups are welcome.
 
AniManga Club – Gulf Breeze Library - 1060 Shoreline Dr.
Dec. 17, 4 p.m.
Visit the Gulf Breeze Library on the third Tuesday of each month to learn and share graphic art skills in a fun environment. The AniManga Club is dedicated to the enjoyment and promotion of animation, cartooning, and related arts. The club is open to youth ages 11 – 17.
 
Tech & Art Club – Navarre Library – 8484 James M. Harvell Rd.
Dec. 18, 4 p.m.

Tweens and teens ages 10-17 who are interested in robotics, coding, and art are invited to a new Tech & Art Club. Explore art using technology and various mediums. Beginners through expert level welcome. Registration is required.
 
Third Thursdays with Your County Master Gardener – Navarre Library – 8484 James M. Harvell Rd.
Dec. 19, 11 a.m.

The county master gardeners will present a monthly series on a variety of interesting topics with solutions for gardening life. This month’s topic, “How to Prune Trees and Shrubs,” will be presented by Mike Burba.
 
Meet! Play! Learn! – Navarre Library – 8484 James M. Harvell Rd.
Dec. 23, 11 a.m.

Meet! Play! Learn! is an early literacy program for babies from birth to five years and their caregivers. Meet other parents and engage in social play time with puzzles, counting, building blocks, stories, Tumble Books, and other STEM activities. Registration is not required.
 
All Day Christmas Movies – Navarre Library – 8484 James M. Harvell Rd.
Dec. 27 9:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.
The Navarre Library will be showing favorite Christmas movies all day, with refreshments provided by the Friends of the Navarre Library.
 
Magnet Adventure – Pace Library – 4750 Pace Patriot Blvd.
Dec. 27, 10 a.m.
Kids in K-5th grade are invited to a building-themed magnet adventure. All supplies will be provided. Registration is required.
 
Harry Potter Yule Ball STEAM – Milton Library – 5541 Alabama St.
Dec. 31, 3 p.m.
Dress as a favorite witch or wizard and help build Hogwarts. This event is open to all ages. Speak with a staff member for more information.
 
Graphic Novel Book Club – Milton Library – 5541 Alabama St.
While the Graphic Novel Club will not meet this month due to the Christmas holiday, stop by the library to pick up a copy of “Wildheart” by Julie Bertagna to read over the break.
